Cool looking tree off the path from the parking lot.
Our recent visit to Limehouse Convervation Area was absolutely magical. As a proudly standing monument of geological history, the Niagara Escarpment never ceases to amaze me!
The Niagara Escarpment runs across Ontario from Niagara to the Bruce Peninsula. The exposed dolostone (limestone) that makes up the escarpment itself is made of compressed sediment layers from an ancient body of water, and was formed over 440+ million years ago.

The limestone is exposed because erosion affects rocks differently over time. The hardest are more resitant to erosion, and are left exposed when the softer rock is weathered away.
We ventured on Bruce Trail for a short walk, and quickly came across some beautiful features of the escarpment.
It was pretty busy when we went on a Saturday in October – the entire parking lot was full at noon. The parking lot is surrounded by a large field with picnic tables near the entrance of the trail.
Have you visited Limestone Conservation Area?

It’s official – we’ve moved to Orillia! We weren’t loving the city life, and wanted to move somewhere closer to nature and outdoor activities. I actually live pretty close to the Limehouse Conservation Area. It’s a lovely area and yes, it tends to be busy in the fall when all the leaves are changing colour. I haven’t been in awhile, so maybe we’ll check this out if we have some time over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
